Interpreting

SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETING – also referred to as cabin interpreting, usually used during conferences, meeting or lectures for many people. The interpreting is provided by 2 interpreters swapping places every 20 minutes. The interpretation is delivered during the statement being interpreted. In order to provide cabin interpreting, appropriate equipment and technicians are necessary.

CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING – the interpreter begins to interpret after the lecturer finishes his/her statement. During the lecture the interpreter usually stands near the lecturer, listens to him/her and makes notes. When the lecturer makes a pause, the interpreter repeats the statement in the target language. The consecutive interpreting is used during official meetings, speeches or commercial negotiations.

WHISPERED INTERPRETING – a kind of simultaneous interpreting, but without the use of equipment and amplification devices. The interpreter stands near a small group of listeners and whispering interprets the lecturer’s statement on the on-going basis. It is most often used when few people do not speak the language spoken by other participants. If there are more than three listeners, the interpretation is ineffective.

ESCORT INTERPRETING – the interpreter dealing with such interpreting assists a person or a group of people during trips, visits, meetings or negotiations. The person dealing with escort interpreting is referred to as the “escort” interpreter.
Interpreting is accounted for depending on the language, place, type and duration of the interpretation. The most popular settlement unit is a 3-our block (consecutive and escort interpreting), 4-hour block and 8-hour block (simultaneous interpreting).
